Marquis Seating Acquires Former Miller Desk Facility

Abandoned furniture manufacturing facility will once again breath new life

(August 23, 2007, HIGH POINT, NC)— Marquis Seating announced today they have begun manufacturing fully-upholstered seating from the former Miller Desk South Road plant.  The expansion for Marquis includes relocating to the 160,000 square foot building which will lead to the creation of close to one hundred jobs over the next two years.

The move into the new facility has allowed Marquis to restructure its internal operations for more efficient production flow. The organization has been reconfigured and additional equipment has been brought into the facility to accommodate the demands of the aggressive business growth.

“We are very enthusiastic about the amount of potential production volume we will be able to achieve in the new facility.  We have had incredible growth within our company and anticipate the industry to remain strong,” said Gary M. Lindenberg, President of Marquis Seating. “Over the last 15 years we’ve given the hospitality industry an affordable product with great style.  We look forward to being able to continue to accommodate the commercial industry only on a much grander scale.”

Marquis was founded in 1992 in Lexington, NC.  The company relocated to Thomasville in 1994.  Marquis is best known for building quality custom upholstery furniture in the hospitality industry.  Five years ago Marquis launched into the contract industry, distributing upholstered seating through a dealer and designer based network.  Marquis holds several national accounts with the major hotel players as well as many standard programs with nationwide retailers.

Marquis has been instrumental in supplying upholstered furniture to many landmark North Carolina hotel properties.  Among this list of properties includes the Ballantyne Resort, The Inn on Biltmore Estates, and The Grandover Resort.  More recently Marquis has added The Proximity Hotel to its list of renowned hotel installations.

“We are excited about becoming a part of the community of High Point.  We feel that Marquis is now defining its role in the history of the local furniture industry,” said Lindenberg.

“We warmly welcome Marquis Seating to High Point,” said Loren Hill, President of the High Point Economic Development Corp.  “I have been impressed by the company and its furniture in the twelve months that we have been working with them.  Their expansion in High Point is important on many fronts – they are putting back to use a large facility, Marquis is relocating more than 100 jobs to our city, and they will be creating many more jobs as part of their expansion plans.”
